From the first images, the deafening noise of bombs accompanies the steps of a young woman into a building. She arrives in a small flat, where an elderly woman tells her in Ukrainian that she will stay there, that she has no one left. The volunteer does not understand her words, but by holding her hand, they manage to communicate. This simple but deeply human gesture is the story line of Dear Beautiful Beloved

The film explores with gripping force the dark side of the war ravaging Ukraine. Without activism, director Juri Rechinsky delicately explores the Donetsk region, where those who cannot leave are supported by organisations in order to be evacuated. Each scene is charged with raw emotion, accurately illustrating the pain and hope that coexist in this tragic context, where solidarity remains omnipresent. And then there are the dead, mourned by their relatives. No image is ever inappropriate, nor does the director film in a voyeuristic way. Juri Rechinsky succeeds in capturing the essence of humanity in its darkest moments. Only respect and compassion prevail, in a world in which death and life come together at every moment.
