Sometimes enemies are inherited. You do not really know them—you may never even have met them. You grow up knowing they exist, on the other side of a border, beneath a different flag, on the opposing side, and you imagine them. Every war creates an enemy, but what remains of that idea once the war is over?

Pablo Aparo leaves Argentina for the Falkland Islands (known in Argentina as the Islas Malvinas), carrying this question with him as he sets out to meet those he considers Los vencedores (The Victors). Yet what initially appears to be a film about life in a territory marked by a conflict that ended more than forty years ago gradually becomes a work about encounter and listening.

Without ever abandoning his political standpoint, Aparo allows lived experience to reshape the documentary before our eyes, building, day by day, his relationship with Mat Mac, a gruff and wary Irish farmer. After conducting countless interviews, it is through this encounter that the director's gaze begins to question itself, measuring itself against what it observes in search of a balance between different lived experiences and inherited legacies.

As two "enemies" forge a bond that emerges—and endures—through disagreement, the islands cease to be merely the symbol of a territorial dispute and become a real, inhabited place, still held hostage by the political and military realities of the present. Without forgetting those who died on these shores, Aparo gives voice to those who lived through the war, while the very idea of the enemy gradually loses its contours, like a story passed down through generations.
